This little Novella (at about 100 pages) is the perfect way to get a taste of this amazing author.

Caden is one of those book boys you just never forget. Holy Hotness!
I decided I had to have the print copy too as I was writing this post so I just ordered it on Amazon.
The One Click button will be death of me for sure.
So on to my review- The story opens with the two main characters, Caden and Mackenna getting stuck on an elevator in the dark.
Neither gets a really good look at the other, which SO intensifies the heat in this story.
Two people who probably wouldn't have sought each other out to start with, find they are irresistibly drawn to one other in the darkness as they open themselves up to their mutual attraction.
You seriously won't believe how much you fall in love with these characters considering how quickly this story unfolds. They are so well developed it seems, almost impossibly so for how short it is and that is the genius of Laura Kaye. The action is non stop and if you can put this book down before finishing it, then you are a much stronger person than I.
The sexual tension is panty melting-
like hide your kids grab your husband hot.
Hope you love it as much as I do!!

--What’s Going On--
Two strangers, paramedic Caden Grayson and accountant Makenna James, get trapped in a dark elevator together with no idea what the other person looks like.

--What are the Issues--
Caden survived a terrible car accident that killed his mother and younger brother and left him scarred and claustrophobic. He's cultivated an intimidating and somewhat standoffish appearance with piercings, tattoos, and a shaved head. He also suffers from panic attacks and PTSD and he's sure that someone as put together as Makenna will never be interested in him.

--What I Liked--
Wow! I've always loved Laura Kaye's books but this was phenomenal. I loved the concept of two strangers who don't really get a good look at each other before becoming trapped in the dark. Because Caden is claustrophobic he begins to have a panic attack but realizes that talking with Makenna is soothing. And so begins their bonding experience. I loved both Caden and Makenna and how they quickly developed this connection in the dark. It's always easier to talk about hard things when you can't see the person you're speaking to, so it makes sense that they would reveal things to each other that they might normally keep quiet. I liked that Makenna was a bit feisty and that growing up with her father and 3 brothers has made her a tomboy. Caden was filled with a lot more self-doubts and problems but it was so great to see how's he's conquered his past and how he's trying to live for himself and his brother. I love characters with tattoos so all of Caden's were great and I wish we had gotten more detailed descriptions of his dragon and tribal tattoos. I'm glad that this included scenes after they get out of the elevator and get to see each other. Even with their connection, they're both nervous about what the other will think. I also appreciated that Makenna wasn't a character that was all, "I'm so average, I'm not attractive" when in fact they're gorgeous. Instead, in a more realistic way, Makenna worries that she might not be edgy or interesting enough for Caden based on his more daring appearance.

--What I Would Have Liked--
The first time I read this book there was no sequel (Love in the Light) in the works so I was a little sad to not have any "I love you"'s expressed. I also wanted to have Caden meet Makenna's family because I alway love the meet the family moments especially with brothers of the heroine. Granted the book only covers about 24 hours so even though they're both feeling a lot, they are not necessarily ready to say anything or meet family. So what happens in the end is appropriate for the amount of time that passes and thankfully there is now a sequel!
Overall Opinion I think I am a minority in this one. Most of my goodreads friends absolutely loved this book, but I sadly didn't love it...it was just ok. I thought it was sweet for sure, but it just wasn't enough for me. I know the next book, Love in the Light, is out -- but after reading reviews on it, I'm not sure I want to jump into it. I needed more in this book. I just don't think I'm a good match for short books, because I always feel like I need more. BUT -- I would recommend this to someone looking for a short, sweet, sexy, no-angst read.

Brief Summary of the Storyline This is Makenna and Caden's story. They get stuck in an elevator together in complete darkness without even seeing each other fully. After some awkward moments, they start talking and eventually share some deep moments. Once they are released from the elevator, they feel like they cannot separate or avoid the connection that they made. There are some sexy times, some sweet times, and the couple have a HFN ending.

POV This alternated between focusing on Makenna and Caden in 3rd person narrative.

Overall Pace of Story Ok. It was too short IMO. I tend to stay away from short books because I often feel underwhelmed with the development of the relationship or even the characters in general, and I didn't really get that with this book. I did, however, want more and was frustrated with the abrupt ending. I didn't skim at any point, and I felt like the story flowed well.

Instalove Yes. They hadn't shared "I love yous" but they were both experiencing major feelings after 1 day. Surprisingly it didn't bother me like instalove often does, and I think it was because they shared so much with each other in that elevator.

H rating 3 stars. Caden. He was a tough exterior with gooey insides.

h rating 3 stars. Makenna. She was sweet and compassionate towards Caden.

Sadness level Low. There are some heavy moments, but I didn't need any tissues.

Heat level Moderate. They do steam things up and have some good chemistry.

Descriptive sex Yes.

Safe sex Yes. Condoms are used.

OW/OM drama No

Closure This had a HFN ending with no closure. The next book is out though.
