Together, a plant ecologist father and his adult, millennial son hike Tennessee's Cumberland Trail. They share their observations and various fun facts along the way about themselves, each other, history, backpacking, day hiking, salamanders who seemingly rise from the dead, ferns, buckeyes, waterfalls, rock formations, possibly mind-reading exhibitionist leeches, the cuteness of toads, hickory "miscarriages," coyotes, the Scopes "Monkey" Trial, the similarity between rattlesnakes and rebellious teenagers, the tenderness of vultures and wild hogs as parents and much more. Join them for a walk you won't forget. Two dollars of the book price goes to the non-profit Cumberland Trails Conference which is helping to build the trail.

Wildly Strolling Along Ben Pounds Larry Pounds 9781364316129 Books Reviews
One thing to know about this book is that it's really funny. Ben has a unique writing voice and talent and it shows. He writes with a kind of honesty that I think will speak to many people. Larry's scientific side boxes often have a sense of humor to them too, kind of like the fact boxes in "The Magic School Bus," books, but aimed at a more mature audience. And then there are the cartoons, which fit in surprisingly well.
This book presents a unique perspective of a father and his adult son on a joint adventure, hiking through outstanding wilderness areas of East Tennessee. While there are many interesting scientific facts presented in the book, the thread running throughout is a warm personal account of two people getting to know each other better. It is a truly enjoyable read!
Wildly Strolling Along
A totally delightful book, very well written. Ben and Larry mix marvelous descriptions of their mile for mile hike, with heart-warming comments which reveal their family connections and views. Makes you feel like you're a good friend along for the hike every step.
